This is Dirk, hanging out with Dot. (Dot moved to Florida).
Dirk’s a particularly solid project car, ready to be restored by anyone looking for a great foundation. Dirk hasn’t been around much, and has mainly been sitting in a New Jersey garage for about the last 30 years. That’s kept his mileage low and his potential very high.
Back in the 70s, Dirk was parked in a dry workshop by a proud owner who hoped to one day restore this car. 30 years later he sold it to me, hopeful that while he couldn’t do it, I would help find someone would bring Dirk back to road with glory.
He’s got some rust in the rear fender bottoms and some in the floor on the outboard driver’s side, but ranks far higher than most of the project Bugeyes out there. Check out his photo album below. He hadn’t moved an inch since the 70s until we brought him to Bugeyeguy world headquarters. He’s a very solid restoration candidate and fortunate to have benefited from almost 40 years of indoor storage.
He’s still finished in original Iris blue with the original blue seats with dark blue piping still installed. They will need to be recovered, but it’s nice to see the originals still intact! We have new blue with light blue piping seat covers to recapture the original look! Dirk also still wears the original blue door linings. It is nearly impossible to find this original rubber!
He has the original 948 engine and smoothcase transmission. The motor turns, and has not run in a long time. The car rolls freely.
Dirk is a great project Bugeye!
