Bluebird is now sold and will be heading to Houston! Congratulations Benjamin!
You just have to love Rod Buller.
Here he is in his Bugeye we sold him last year (which he named Bluebird) with his dog “Todd.” Rod just traded in Bluebird for his new Bugeye, Priscilla. He wanted more power and a five speed gearbox, and Priscilla was a logical upgrade. Sounds like one of our usual Life with Bugeye stories until you realize that Rod is 87 years old. He was 86 when he bought his last Bugeye. Now he’s on to his second.
I get calls each week from people who are waiting for the right moment to invest in a fun car and it’s so refreshing to work with Rod. He’s not waiting for anything, and is living fully today. We now have Rod’s former Bugeye for sale, and maybe the new owner will inherit a bit of Rod’s invincible spirit.
“Bluebird” is a really nice 1960 Bugeye ready for fun! She’s spent the last year in Florida, and traveled about 500 miles while there. Rod just installed a nice new off-white top, and she has a great black tonneau and windows. The car also has a bunch of new parts, most of which we installed before shipping Rod the car last fall… all new brakes and brake hydraulics including a rebuilt sleeved master cylinder, all new shocks and new radius arm bushings. New water hoses were also added as well as new front wheel bearings.
The car has a strong upgraded 1275 engine that runs great with excellent oil pressure, and no smoke-it’s a good one, with ample power. The car has been upgraded with a flip forward nose, which makes engine access a delight. The car drives wonderfully, and shifts with ease. The four-speed ribbed case transmission is excellent. Both engine and transmission are from a later Sprite or Midget, good upgrades! The car retains the original drum brakes, which work flawlessly.
The car presents quite nicely with just a few minor paint imperfections. Use this Bugeye as is for many fun miles, or if you prefer, new paint would make this car even nicer.
What I love most about this car is that the entire underside has been restored. The floors were replaced, and done well, so the foundation is excellent. The pictures show how nicely the underside has been restored!
Bluebird has been upgraded with an electronic ignition system (no ignition points) and an electronic fuel pump. K and N lifetime air filters were also added. This Bugeye also has a great exhaust header, for better breathing and more power.
She has a very good tonneau, nice windows, and new top.
Tires are nearly new. Check out more photos below!
