AN5L 24754 is a very nice Bugeye we call “Reese.” The car was hibernating for the past 10 or so years but is now back in service, due to our restoration of the mechanicals to make the car drive once again. We fit a new fuel tank and all new hydraulic parts such that we could make the car run and drive. Now the car is ready for a new home.
It’s a very solid car, having spent much of its life in California, where the car was aledgely once owned by actor Kevin Bacon. It came East years ago to a home in Connecticut, which is where we found it.
The mechanicals are quite good, with a 948 engine that shows good power, strong oil pressure and no smoke. The transmission also shifts quite nicely, with no issues. We have replaced all the wheel cylinders and brake lines, slave cylinder too. The car drives nicely!
The paint is still quite strong. It’s an older paint job with a few flaws, but overall the car shines quite nicely as shown. There is a lot of life left in this paint job, and it’s a very pleasing color on the car.
There is more to do… the rack boots need replacement, and the tires are older. We can do as much or as little as the new owner desires.
The car also has wider rear rims, a period hot rod moficiation, so that the car could no doubt look impressive alongside American muscle cars. The look is decidedly vintage, and it is up to the new owner to keep or swap these wheels.
The interior is quite good. We’ve just enrobed the car in new black carpet. The seat covers are from a later Sprite, and have a bit more lower back support than the stock Bugeye seats. They’re comfortable! The dashboard is still in quite nice shape.
There is no heater installed (although we can add one) and the weber carb works quite well. The radiator has been recored and the installed oil cooler will also help should the car end up in a hot climate.
I like this car a lot, it has a great vibe, you can feel it. It’s available for $14,995. Call or email if you would like to take this car home!
