“Mahoney” (AN5L 19886) is the perfect cruiser! This is a 948-powered car, with front disk brakes, and great fun to drive. We had the privilege of working on this one a few times for the prior owner, and we laid down an excellent foundation for the new owner, now that the prior owner decided to move on and sell us the car.
The car has a lot of nice improvements done at our shop. Most notably, we upgraded the car to front disc brakes, installed new radius arms, new original speedo, door liners, high output starter, and installed a newly rebuilt rib case transmission just a few hundred miles ago. The prior owner spent about $10,000 at our shop on these and other improvements, so the new owner gets a lot of great goodies included.
In May of 2020, we also we also installed four new shocks, dog bones, check straps, one of our improved ignition switches, an electronic distributor, new slave cylinder, water hoses, electric fuel pump, heater valve and upgraded hanging gas pedal.
This week, we put in a new spin-on oil filter kit, fuel tank and fuel pick up line, all to further tidy-up the car. The new owner might want to add a sway bar kit, possibly an aluminum radiator, and we much prefer new SU carbs to the weber set-up currently in place, but that’s up to the new owner… everything works great, and we are always happy to make these cars even better!
There are a couple of unique features this car has that the next owner may wish to have us remove. There is a set of driving lights mounted to the front of the car in a very unorthodox location, under the nose. We have never seen them done this way before, and we can remove them if the next owner desires, and add some new ones in their more traditional orientation on the nose. The previous owner also installed some custom speaker enclosures in the foot well area that could be in striking distance of the knees of some of our taller drivers; these can be removed as well if the next owner so desires.
Check out the video above for a walk-around and test drive of Mahoney, a solid and handsome Bugeye for anyone looking for a driver they can also show!
