We call this red 1959 Bugeye Sprite “Jericho” (AN5L 8882). This car is another that’s been hibernating for quite some time; in fact, we found it sitting in the garage after roughly 10 years of inoperation. We have spent the last week bringing Jericho back to life!
The car underwent an extensive restoration of its mechanical pieces in our shop. We put in new wheel cylinders, a new master cylinder, new slave cylinder, new electric fuel pump and new Gas Tank, as well as new lever shock absorbers in the front. We also put in new check straps, radius arms, shocks and dog bones in the rear. This was all done to bring this car back to life; as a result, it now runs and drives quite well!
The interior in Jericho is fine or we can upgrade it for the new owner. The seats are comfortable to sit in, the carpet and floor mats are in good shape, and the piping accents the all-black interior well! The interior has just the right amount of weathering to make it feel nostalgic; the steering wheel feels good in your hand and it has a wonderfully-weathered wooden shift knob installed with the Austin-Healey crest attached.
Jericho is a 948-powered car with the original smoothcase transmission. The car runs very well and shifts smoothly! The car has 4 wheel drum brakes installed; new brake hydraulics mean a firm brake pedal that stops the car very well! The heater works, but the blower motor is missing (although we can put one in for the new owner if needed. There are some spots on the floors underneath the car and at the bottom of the A pillar where the rocker meets the bonnet where rust has begun to form, as you can see in the pictures at the end of this post. Overall, this car is a pretty solid driver-quality car!
Jericho is a car that’s a lot of fun that anyone would enjoy! It’s an inexpensive way to get into a Bugeye! This car does not come with any weather equipment; there is no top, tonneau, or side curtains with the car, but each of these could be fitted if the new owner so desired. If you’re looking for an inexpensive driver Bugeye, Jericho is worth a serious look! Give us a call if you would like to learn more!
